What makes an agricultural bearing different?

Farm equipment combines dust, moisture, crop residue, shock and seasonal maintenance. An agricultural bearing is identified from the shaft interface, locking method, seal package and machine position — not from an abbreviated farm number alone. Round, square and hex bores, extended inner rings and application-specific closures define different products with similar outside dimensions. See the agricultural bearing series guide.

Round, hex or square bore?

Seals for mud and water

Most agricultural bearings do not fail from fatigue. They fail because soil, crop residue or water gets past the seal. More contact lips and a flinger exclude more contamination, at the cost of friction and heat; water resistance of the grease matters more than its speed rating. A machine maker's part number identifies the part in one catalogue; it does not describe the bearing to another manufacturer. We quote from the measured geometry, bore form, seal and locking method behind that number, cross-referenced by dimensions and function and confirmed on a sample. What to send for a quotation

Part number and machine position.
Bore form and size (across flats for hex or square), outside diameter and both ring widths.
Seal type and locking method.
A sample or drawing, and the quantity.

Frequently asked questions

Can you replace a bearing from the machine maker's part number?

Yes. We use the part number as a cross-check and quote from the measured dimensions, bore form, seal and locking method, confirmed on a sample.

What is the difference between hex bore and round bore bearings?

A hex bore is driven positively by the hex shaft. A round bore relies on a fit, set screws or an eccentric collar and can creep if the locking fails.

Why do disc harrow bearings have a square bore?

The square gang shaft drives the discs, spools and bearing inner ring as one clamped stack, with no set screw or collar to loosen.

Why do farm bearings fail early?

Usually because soil or water gets past the seal, not from fatigue. Seal design, grease and washing and storage habits decide the life.
